LMAO i completely understand booktok liking a book being actually an anti-rec for that book but i do really enjoy the locked tomb series, i actually picked it up originally bc i was a fan of the author's homestuck fic haha. the books do get increasingly incomprehensible and difficult to parse (guy who just searched up a nt9 plot synopsis last night and was like Wtf i picked up none of that) but in a fun and rewarding way imo and the haptics and proxemics slay the world so that alone keeps me engaged!! if you do pick it up please do lmk your thoughts hehe
omg i also keep coming across positive reviews for babel on tiktok and its like....... did we read the same book lmao im so glad you feel the same way 😭 like content preferences aside it is just not a well written book!! and i KNOW rfk can do compelling characters and haptics/proxemics so there is no excuse for how much babel flopped in that regard, though having clumsy storytelling is a classic rfk problem. i totally agree that babel comes off very self righteously preaching to the choir also "no matter how much she centers herself as an AAPI voice or whatever, her work comes off to me as being written for white ppl who think that reading/recommending fiction with 'imperialism is bad' messaging is activism" SO TRUE, REALLY FUNNY, LAUGHED like that is literally its problem, babel is soooo surface level.
