EP 1
loran faces the moon with his arms outstretched and shouts, the earth is a wonderful place! everyone, hurry and come back!
EP 3
keith and loran dangle their feet in the river and discuss the sudden invasion force launched by the moonrace. it is a beautiful sunny day. unwilling to concede the fact that he is starring in a gundam franchise installment, keith says, there's no way they'll go to war, but by the end of the conversation he admits that war is imminent.
EP 10
dianna and kihel have tea together. as kihel lifts her cup with her right hand, dianna rotates the handle of her own cup to lift it with her left hand. kihel asks, are you left-handed? dianna says, no. i am only mirroring you right now. the girls giggle and acknowledge their identical appearances.
on a whim, dianna and kihel switch clothes. kihel pretends to issue an order to an imaginary ambassador miran, and dianna clutches kihel's shoulder from behind as she laughs at the impression. kihel thinks to herself, queen dianna must have been very lonely.
EP 18
guin, loran, and dianna-as-kihel watch kihel-as-dianna give a speech proclaiming her desire to resume peace negotiations. dianna quietly says to loran, lady kihel heim has expressed the feelings of my own heart even better than i myself could have.
EP 20
loran and dianna-as-kihel help an old lady tend to her crops in order to convince her to evacuate her farm before the fighting reaches it. the lady shows dianna a sorrel plant. surprised, dianna thinks, there is a plant on earth that carries my name. she says to the lady, living here must be magnificent.
EP 21
loran heads out in the turn a to help dianna-as-kihel finish washing the dirty linens for the field hospital. sochie reprimands him for using the gundam without an enemy to battle, but loran insists that machines are meant to help people, not just to fight. he carries the laundry over to the river where dianna is washing linens by hand and uses the turn a's hand as a washing machine, holding the laundry in the river and spinning the hand really fast. soap bubbles froth up and fly everywhere, scattering hundreds of tiny reflections of dianna's delighted smile and the vivid blue-pink sunset behind them.
later loran and dianna sit by the river under the turn a, which has clotheslines strung up between its outstretched arms for the laundry to dry. they watch a butterfly flutter past them, over the sparkling water and into the violet evening. such beautiful colours, dianna says.
EP 22
harry infiltrates a militia dig site in extremely conspicuous and ugly civilian disguise to find dianna-as-kihel and inform her that dianna counter intends to strike the willgem. then he says, i have been shamed.
why? dianna says.
why was i not informed that you were here? harry says angrily, turning to face her.
dianna only says, don't look suspicious.
EP 24
in the wake of another set of skirmishes, dianna explains to loran that the red team are the descendants of an experimental group of moonrace she left on earth centuries ago, and so these deaths are also the result of her own sins. loran disagrees, saying that he's only been on earth for a few years, but he already feels like a citizen of earth, though he never forgot or stopped admiring dianna. he says, you can't label herself the source of these sins. dianna smiles and seems to brighten. she lifts her right hand to the side; loran clasps it with his left. she places her left hand on his shoulder; he places his right hand on her waist. she tells him she must return to the moon in order to end the war, and they begin to waltz.
EP 27
dianna stands in the hand of harry's gold sumo as they prepare to leave for the soleil. loran kneels in the hand of the turn a with his hand over his heart, bidding her farewell and thanking her for the wonderful experiences they've shared. dianna says, loran, you're now truly a pure-hearted man of earth. loran tells harry to take good care of their queen.
kihel and dianna finally reunite on board the soleil, flying into each other's arms. dianna praises kihel's strength in performing dianna's state and military duties, while kihel laments the suffering dianna must have experienced on the ground. dianna touches kihel's mouth and tells her she can address her less formally. kihel takes dianna's hand as she explains how she had to access dianna's private data to learn how to behave like her, and tearfully sinks to the ground, saying, it must have been a terrible experience for you to have lived for so long. still holding kihel's hand, dianna crouches beside kihel and says that there were also many wonderful and happy memories in her past.
EP 29
a loyalist soldier secretly allows dianna-as-kihel to escape from the soleil, believing her to be dianna despite her claims otherwise. she thanks him but asks, would this be acceptable if i were actually kihel heim?
the soldier says, two are one, and the one...
... is also two, dianna finishes.
EP 37
harry asks kihel to act as dianna's body double again. kihel says that dianna never runs from her responsibility, no matter what pressure or stress she may be under, and this is what makes dianna so beautiful. harry says, your ability to say such things proves that you're just as beautiful. he tilts his face close to kihel's and continues: it is because you are so pure of thought that i must now betray you. the camera pans down to the gun harry has pressed against kihel's stomach. kihel's eyes widen, then settle into an expression of sombre acceptance. she says, do as you will. harry knocks her unconscious and carries her into his gold sumo to stage an escape from the willgem.
EP 38
conscious again, kihel perches in harry's lap and presses a hand against the windshield of the gold sumo's cockpit, looking out into space. am i, kihel heim, unworthy of playing queen dianna's double? she asks.
what do you mean? i think you are quite a suitable woman... harry says uncertainly.
kihel turns to face him. i love you, sir harry, she says.
harry ducks his head. i am honoured, he says.
kihel leans close to him, brow furrowed, and says, this isn't how things were meant to be, is it, harry ord?
harry says, as the commander of the royal guard, queen dianna is the only one i am permitted to hold in my heart.
sir harry! kihel interrupts, flinging herself forward and hiding her face in his shoulder.
and so, i can't let myself be moved by...
harry! kihel insists, covering harry's mouth with her hand. pulling back again and dropping her gaze to the side, she says, eyes bright and trembling with unshed tears, only tell me that you love me, and i'll do what you wish without question. even if it's assassinating agrippa.
harry takes kihel's chin in a hand and tilts her head up. kihel heim, he says. you are free to strike me, if you desire. his other hand comes up to cup her face, and kihel's hand falls away from harry's mouth. her hair floats out behind her in a halo. i wish for you to become dianna's shield. the tears begin to overflow from kihel's eyes. harry says, and all the same, i'll love you as best i can, though it may not be a love worthy of you. when harry kisses kihel her eyes open wide in shock. in the absence of gravity, her tears disperse out into the cockpit.
EP 41
lily and dianna, posing as kihel again, watch agrippa panicking up on the throne dais in dianna's palace, ala hyotei mean girls peanut gallery. will you have any use for him? lily asks, clearly unimpressed by the display of hysteria and political incompetence. frankly, he's a bit too simple-minded, dianna replies.
EP 42
exhausted from a hasty escape from the palace via hidden tunnel, dianna leans her weight against the wall and slides to the ground, gasping for breath. kihel rushes over to help her stand back up, clutching dianna's arms. smiling ruefully, dianna confides to kihel that centuries of cryosleep have weakened her body and she can't be quite as energetic as kihel. kihel's face twists in concern. dianna's expression falters and she glances away. i wanted to return to earth and live out the rest of my life, aging gradually and eventually dying as any normal human would, she says. i wanted to allow at least a few members of the moonrace to share that experience with me. she looks back at kihel. was that simply my selfish ego talking?
not at all, kihel says gently.
EP 44
facing agrippa in the archives of the winter palace, dianna takes out a dagger. during my time on earth, i learned a lot of things about life, death, and war, she says. kihel rests her hand atop dianna's, over the hilt of the blade. now i realise... perhaps i did commit a sin 300 years ago.
if that's the case, we can commit one more right here and now! kihel continues, coldly furious.
kihel and dianna lunge forward in unison, both grasping the dagger, but before they can kill agrippa, midgard shoots him dead first. midgard then turns his gun on the girls, and dianna stretches a protective arm in front of kihel. as he lifts his gun to fire, kihel throws herself in front of dianna, shouting, i am dianna soriel!
EP 44
kihel helps dianna dress as the queen of the moon again, so she can placate the riots happening outside the palace. she slides dianna's characteristic silver hair ornaments into place like armour.
EP 45
hearing somebody enter his hospital room, harry puts on his sunglasses. he is wearing an ugly set of pale purple pyjamas dotted with yellow stars. kihel, dressed as dianna, pauses outside the curtain to check the ornaments in her hair, before greeting harry in dianna's manner of speech, though harry identifies her as kihel immediately. he apologises for turning her into dianna's body double, but she dismisses this, saying that she's glad to be of use in the uneasy political situation. kihel begins peeling one of the apples on the bedside table with a knife and asks how harry is able to tell the difference between her and dianna. it's because of the different kind of sorrow you both display, harry says. after dianna emerged from her period of hibernation, i was gradually able to comprehend just how truly sad she felt. as for you, kihel heim, you came off as far more lively.
perhaps it's due to the fact that queen dianna and i have both endured many different kinds of hardships, kihel says.
however, things have changed now, harry says. you have begun to share the burden of dianna's sorrow.
a tear falls from kihel's eye onto the apple she is coring.
EP 45
alone in one of the palace rooms, lily takes a sip of hot cocoa and dances in her seat, ecstatic at the taste. she takes another sip and dances again. when kihel enters the room lily offers her a cup as well, and kihel is equally delighted by the taste. lily clasps kihel's hands and says, from now on, let's try and become good friends! kihel leans forward and says, of course, lady lily! frowning, lily says, none of that anymore. kihel tentatively smiles at her and drops the honorifics, and lily happily reciprocates.
EP 46
after loran brings news of guin's betrayal back to the palace, lily calmly explains guin's intent to use moonrace technology to consolidate his power back on earth. indignant on lily's behalf after losing her own fiance, or perhaps out of suspicion, sochie asks, aren't you angry that he left you behind? lily waves a dismissive hand. i am the daughter of a politician, after all, lily says. i don't have the time to sit around and stew in anger.
EP 47
lily, dianna, and loran all attempt to talk guin into backing down. without looking, dianna reaches out behind her, and kihel immediately clasps her hand in wordless support.
EP 50
EPILOGUE
sochie, kihel, and dianna sit at the back of a car driven by loran and harry. kihel and dianna agree to switch identities one last time, in secret. sochie moves to the front of the car. loran, she calls, and loran answers, yes? but sochie says nothing more.
dianna and loran sit on the balcony of their lakeside cabin in the forest, companionably sharing a meal. they both watch as a flock of swans takes off. dianna is wearing a wedding ring and loran is not.
back at home taking care of her ill mother, sochie finds loran's old fish-shaped toy from childhood. once she had teased him for bringing it to their coming of age ceremony; now it is all she has left of him. she takes the toy down to the river and hurls it into the water. everyone she loves has moved on to their futures. unhappy and frustrated, she screams into the night.
flowers have grown over the cocoon encasing the turn a and the turn x. the moon is full.
