rhodochrositehere is a list of my fave yugioh ops from each series! vrains erasure sry but i haven't watched it. ETA 130521 now with vrains! but no sevens. vrains is very very good tho i'm sorry for previous mistreatment and erasure
i was gonna make this an exhaustive ranking of every yugioh op but it's too hard for me to choose... maybe one day when i'm bothered to load every song into the character sorter code

> overlap - kimeru. little bit slow to start but once you get into the chorus it goes sooo hard. the animation quality of this op is crazy good too i swear they used the entire season's budget on the op and just decided to be like Fuck the actual show
> SPECIAL MENTION to the eng dub op which fucking BANGS.... it's TIME to D-D-D-D-DDDDDDDDUEL. linking the s3 version cause it's even better than the original imo thanks to the epic strings and brass lines that got added, this one feels darker and more ominous which i love, but still keeps that immediately recognisable main theme <3

OITSUZUKETE KEEP HOLDING ON!!! it's definitely upbeat and full of shounen passion but is it just me or does this op sound a little bit sad too... maybe i'm just influenced by the fact that it's the gx finale szn and i'm feeling nostalgic. and maybe that this szn concerns judai battling depression after committing mass murder. this song fucks tho

5ds overall has my fave ops and eds... the ost is so perfectttt i miss when yugioh characters had individual themes as well as separate battle themes instead of just a generic battle theme ~__~ aki had TWO battle themes... I WANTED THAT FOR ARC V... anyway 5ds privilege is having 2 fave ops because they're honestly both god tier
> last train ~atarashii asa~ - knotlamp. honestly the platonic ideal of shounen anime ops!!! upbeat, fun, subtle undercurrent of melancholy, just perfect in every way, objectively speaking... love the driving electric guitar line so much. the dragons are rendered in cgi that's a little dated but still sxc <3
> believe in nexus - masaaki endoh. this might be my fave yugioh op overall the electric guitar is so fucking crunchy THIS SLAPS SOOO HARD literally nothing gets me fired up more quickly than this song it's just so EPIC. art seriously levelled up for this op... dragons hand drawn <salivating emoji> i love the part where kizunaship smirk at each other and unleash rainbow auras that combine to unleash some kinda force field

we will not be discussing the way burn still evokes some kind of pavlovian response in me that causes me to burst into tears as soon as i hear it
> unleash - gekidan niagara. such an amazing op for such a terrible season :') something really awe inspiring about this song esp the way the percussion beat drops off when the chorus hits. just epic. reminds me of a less crazy intense believe in nexus. also the way i screamed when i saw the silhouette of JACK ATLAS show up for the first time
VRAINS
> calling - kimeru. if there's one thing kimeru knows how to do it's create an absolute slapper of a final op for a yugioh series. the song is theeeee perfect balance between shounen banger and depressing as all fuck... kimi to deai sekai irozuite ::tears:: ::tears:: ::tears:: i love the shot of the cast in their civiliansonas that cuts to their vrsonas and the whole time none of them are looking at each other it really is like that TT__TT
