rhodochrositetranslation of <this amazing tinhatting analysis> by twitter user kugami_long on the vol. 90 AR conversation between okiya and amuro after the betrayal's stage case, it's literally so good i have nothing else to add to it except that i <3 okiya and amuro's I Know You Know I Know conversations and okiya letting amuro know he knows azusa was vermouth by fake innocently asking about a non-existent relationship between amuro and azusa and ofc okiya constantly destabilising amuro's society... this instance is even more egregious than secret 5 imo because OKIYA is the one who initiates and he really had no reason to hold this conversation other than to bully amuro a bit lmao... akai's vague antipathy towards vermouth is also so good i love to see one of my favourite triangulations have textual basis!!

next, in [2], okiya isn't asking about objective facts such as "how the two of you got together," but rather subjective facts such as "why you fell for her" that rei-kun has to think up for himself. rei-kun should have answered in a way that turned okiya's attention from vermouth to himself. but thinking up something out of nothing requires high instantaneous power, and as a NOC, rei-kun should be used to doing this, yet he was unable to answer quickly enough and could only affirm. he's very flustered, isn't he? plus, it shows his lack of romantic experience (his relationships with elena-sensei and azusa-san are completely different so he probably can't apply that...)
and now, the abrupt [3]. taken straightforwardly, the line seems to be referring to vermouth-as-azusa, but if you think about it, okiya doesn't actually indicate who he's talking about. it could also apply to rei-kun's appearance when he was talking to vermouth-as-azusa, couldn't it? if he simply meant to refer to vermouth, wouldn't he say something like "she was attractive, wasn't she?" to force rei-kun to agree? more importantly, why is [3] the only line that isn't in past tense!? using [specific sentence ending particle] is the way you tell the person in front of you, right!? due to the lines in [1] and [2], rei-kun is in a confused daze and doesn't realise it, but isn't okiya taking advantage of the chaos to bring rei-kun into it too!?!?
